Work With Us

If working in a rural and remote place as part of a creative and dynamic team appeals to you, consider joining us.

We have seasonal positions (July through October) available for:

Shop Host/Guide
You are hospitable, caring, smile a lot, are curious and thorough and love to please people.  Learn our inspirations and echoes and be able to represent Fogo Clay Studio with visitors to the Studio's Shop with expert product knowledge.  Guide customers through selection, ordering and payment processes.  Prepare and pack orders for shipping and complete shipping manifests. Monitor orders to be able to provide status updates.  Be able to laugh and tell a good story and enjoy being part of a team.  More than one part-time position available for the inaugural Summer 2020 season.

Production Assistant
Work under Sarah's direction to produce Fogo Clay Studio's unique tablewares.  You are easygoing but a perfectionist and enjoy working independently. You seek to improve your skills all the time.  You enjoy being creative and being mentored.  You are strong and flexible.  You do what it takes to get a job done, right.  Ideally you hold a ceramics degree and have five or more years of previous production experience.

Studio Assistant
Work with the Studio team to keep things tidy, dust-free, organized and ready.  Your activities include mixing glazes, mixing clay, wedging, loading and unloading the kilns, and all things cleaning.  An interest in developing a pottery practice is a plus as you will have built in mentors.  Note that for the first season this role may be combined with Production Assistant.

Innkeeper's Right Hand Person
Work under Tracey's direction to procure and forage Island ingredients, maintain a well-stocked pantry, prepare components  and bake and cook tasty breakfasts, lunches and suppers for our workshop Guests.  You also know your way around an espresso machine and can make a mean flat white.  You're an all-rounder not put off that laundry and tidying are part of the job.  People would say you are like a dog with a bone in how you stay close to things and see them through to the end. We work in an open kitchen, so being hospitable and curious, as well as tidy, is a must.  Workshops are held from Thursday Supper through Tuesday Breakfast.

The Summer of 2020 is our inaugural season and hours of work will be variable for all positions.

Preference will be given to residents of Fogo Island.

To express interest and learn more about working with us, please indicate 'Work With Us: <<desired position>> in the subject line and send your cover letter and cv to post@fogoclaystudio.ca.

Please apply prior to January 31, 2020.  Our season will begin in early July 2020 and extend to mid-October 2020.

Only candidates who will receive further consideration will be contacted.
